On the 12th March I visited the reading rooms at the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow to look through material relating to employees of the William Morris Company.
Founded in 1861 as Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co, the William Morris Co was a leading light in the Arts and Crafts movement and as such I wanted to see if any of their designers or skilled workman had emigrated to England from Poland.
Unfortunately, I found no concrete evidence of Polish employees in the company. I did find a list of workers involved in creating the Merton Abbey Tapestries although further investigation is needed to see if any of them came from Poland.
